WHAT IS THE CERTIFICATE OF RECOGNITION (COR)? The Certificate of Recognition recognizes and rewards employers who go beyond the legal requirements of the Workers Compensation Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation by taking a best practices approach to implementing health, safety, and return-to-work (RTW) management systems. The program promotes equally the concept of managing health and safety with other components necessary for a successful business, such as profitability and productivity. Learn more about the benefits of COR certification through WorkSafeBC Partners Program. Why conduct a COR certification Audit? COR Certification Members receive monetary compensation from WorkSafeBC. If a health and safety program is running and never gets measured, how can one be sure it is functioning properly? Here are some reasons why an audit should be done:
An audit will assess three fundamental aspects of your company’s health and safety management system. These include: Documentation, Observation, & Interviews. The Audit document supplied by the certifying partner for your industry. Documentation Health & Safety Manual Verification- Reviewing the H&S manual is the first step in the document review. There are 14 elements required in a COR approved health and safety program. Observation This section is assessed by the use of an extensive checklist, which is comprised of 25 sections. The purpose of the observational tour is to confirm the information gathered during the documentation review is being met by the employer. Interviews An audit/evaluation of management and worker knowledge/participation of your companies Health and Safety Program in relationship to COR- best practice industry standards and current legislative requirements. A set of 47 or more questions are asked in regards to a companies OH&S management system. Questions are graded with either a positive or a negative response. An overall score is tallied to provide an assessment the knowledge of your safety system for owners, managers, supervisors and workers. Action Plan Based on the audit document a comprehensive action plan is developed. Depending on your companies current situation the scope of work to complete and maintain best practices varies from company to company. |
